In the world of golf instruction there can many confusing and conflicting methods and ideologies. Watch the Golf Channel one night, read Golf Magazine another and you may get two totally different perspectives on the same subject. It's not to say it's bad information or one is right and the other wrong, it just may not be relevant or applicable to you. There are some instructors that are method teachers, meaning they believe there's one correct way to swing the club and they teach that method to all their students. At Grantwood we do not practice a specific method of teaching. Though I believe and like pieces and parts of several methodoligies, I do not believe that one method can fiit every player. Our students range from fellow golf professionals and competitve amateur players to those that do not know which end of the club to hold and everything in between. Some of the best players of all times had unconventional swings that worked well for them. While we keep abrest of the newest theorys in swings mechanics and teaching methodology, our core instruction beliefs are based on time tested models that have worked for players from generation to generation. We work with you to find your best possible swing and results, we are all about results not necessarily just a good looking swing. I believe an imperative part of the learning and improvement process is that students have a clear undesrating of the basics of ball flight principals and the cause and effect of the various shots they hit both good and bad.
For those students seeking private instruction please stop in or call to schedule a "Get Aquainted Lesson" with myself or one of my staff. This session will allow both you and the instructor to establish a connection; for us to become familiar with you and your game and for you to become familiar and comfortable with your instructor. We will examine your full swing with different clubs, we will check your chipping & pitching technique and we will watch you hit a variety putts on the green. We will also document your current equipment specifications and set make up. Once this has been accomplished we can then make an accurate assesment of your current status, combine it with your golas and aspirations and then set a mutually agreeable game plan for reaching them. It is vital to all parties that realitic goals are estbalished based upon the amount of time and motivation you have to devote to your improvement.
If you are an entry level player with no existing game to assess we recommend you enroll directly into our "Get Golf Ready" program. This can be done in either a group or private setting. This is a series of eight classes that will expose you to every aspect of the game so you can be confident that you will know what to do both on and off the course. You may not be ready to compete in the U.S. Open after eight weeks but you will be armed with the necessary knowledge to be comfortable and fit in to any golf environment.
